The 'EX' version machine is the new improved version of the BJ5000 unit. The main advantage is that it uses a lot less power (around half actually) than its predecessor and as such is great for boats with outboards or limited power sources. It also has a larger display, and a faster stronger motor (about 20% faster than before). It may look very similar to the BJ5000 but has the key difference of not having a gearbox inside. As such if you have hauled up and are steaming with the line in the water the line can tend to slip out a little, with the machine hauling back the slipped line every so often. Of course you can just hook the top hook onto the machine or boat whilst steaming and this will not be an issue.
